Gwendolyn Hooks and Art Burton

That's me holding my copy of Art's new book.

On August 12, 2006, I went to the Three Rivers Museum

in Muskogee, Oklahoma to hear Art Buton.

Art is the Bass Reeves expert.

He has written a book all about him, Black Gun, Silver Star:

The Life and Legend of Frontier Marshal Bass Reeves.

Art told a lot of stories about Bass.

For instance, he told us how Bass marched about 24 prisoners

from the MK & T railroad depot to the jail single file.

The sight was so spectacular, the street was lined with citizens.

After his book signing we toured parts of Muskogee.

I saw where the jail used to be that Bass took his prisoners.

Bass had two houses in Muskogee.

I also saw where both of his houses used to be located.

This is me at one of my favorite parks, Will Rogers Park in Oklahoma City.

It has a rose garden that's just beautiful in bloom.

I love walking through the park. It fills my mind

with writing ideas.
